Something affording pleasure, diversion, or amusement, such as a performance, game, or activity.

Entertainment evolves and can be adapted to any scale from an individual who chooses private entertainment from the many pre-recorded products available, to parties of any size, to performances intended for thousands, or even a global audience. It is often associated with amusement, but it can also serve a serious purpose as in the case of a religious festival or satire.

Many forms of entertainment have a strong connection to the brain’s evolved reaction to deeply understand the world around us. This is illustrated by the way in which a story like Scheherazade, a tale from the Persian professional storytelling tradition, can inspire composers such as Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel, film directors such as Pasolini, and innovative video games.
